Questions and answers

Do I need an exam if I see fine?

Yes. Several eye conditions cause no symptoms early on, and a clear picture is not proof of healthy eyes.

How often should I come?

Many adults come once a year. If you have diabetes, glaucoma or a family history, the doctor may suggest every year or more often.

What is the difference between a routine and a medical visit?

A routine visit is for glasses and contact lenses. A medical visit is for an eye problem, a disease check or a follow-up. Many visits are both.

Do you work with my vision plan or medical insurance?

We work with many vision plans and medical insurance plans. Call us to confirm yours, and we will check your benefits before the visit.

Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?

A visit about an eye problem, an eye disease or a follow-up is a medical visit, and medical insurance usually pays for it. How fees work explains the split.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Your prescription is yours. We give you a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere.

Can I take my contact lens prescription elsewhere?

Yes, when the fitting is finished. If a seller calls to verify it, we confirm it.

What do I need to have with me?

Your glasses and contact lenses, your insurance cards, a list of the medicines you take, and your questions.

How much will it cost?

It depends on your plans and on what you choose. We give you a written estimate before you pay for anything yourself. See How fees work.

What should I do in an eye emergency?

Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. Call us right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.
